Devils’ Timo Meier gets decision by NHL on bloody cross-checking penalty

With the Devils holding a two-goal lead late in their 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Monday night, forward Timo Meier was baited into an inexplicable cross-checking penalty that forced his teammates to kill a five-minute major penalty after dominating the game.
Now it turns out, the penalty was more costly than simply forcing the Devils to scramble frantically to preserve a win: Meier, called on the carpet by the NHL for an on-the-phone hearing on Tuesday afternoon, was suspended for one game.
